The FYCA Progressive Handicaps are normally updated twice a year. However the handicap committee are making an unscheduled update of handicaps as an error was discovered in the progressive update algorithm. This affects yachts that have posted unassessable slow results. The first of a sequence of unassessable slow results were being processed with a performance in the assessable range rather than being ignored. As a consequence it inflated the boats performance and gave them a stiffer handicap than it should.
The correction has been made and progressive update recalculated (with the same race result data to the end of June 2016). The new handicaps will appear on the FYCA Web site in the next few days.
A spreadsheet has been given to sailing secretaries and has been used to update the handicap list needed for our Festival Series which starts tonight. This update will not be applied retrospectively.
